THORPEX PTOST Field Campaign

Experiment Information:

The Observing System Research and Predictability Experiment (THORPEX) is being conducted from the Hickham AFB in Honolulu, Hawaii from February 18 to March 14, 2003. THORPEX has several objectives, including improvement of weather prediction models, satellite validation (TERRA, AQUA, ICESat), validation of NAST, and improvement of aviation weather products. The 2003 THORPEX experiment is the first in a series of campaigns in support of the World Weather Research Program, with a goal of improving both short- and long-term weather forecasting.

GLAS underflights occurred at the following dates/times:

calendar day February 26: 1:20 UTC (Julian day February 27)

calendar day March 1: 1:55 UTC (Julian day March 2)

calendar day March 10: 1:44 UTC (Julian day March 11)
