Experiment Information:The Cloud and Land Surface Interaction Campaign (CLASIC) is being conducted by the Department of Energy's Atmospheric Radiation Measurement program. The primary purpose of CLASIC is to study how land surface processes influence cumulus convection. Most measurements will occur over the ARM Southern Great Plains field site. Low-flying aircraft will measure radiation and surface fluxes, while the high-altitude ER-2 will provide remote sensing using the CPL, the Cloud Radar System (CRS), and the MODIS Airborne Simulator (MAS). Because the ER-2 is flying the A-Train simulator payload, underflights of the CALIPSO and CloudSat satellites will also occur as part of CLASIC.
